Caevana pulled out her greatsword from its sheath, made sure it was still as clean as it had been last night when she had cleaned it for the fourth time that day, and slipped it back in. She connected the leather strap to the sheath and slung the whole thing on her back. She slowly walked out into the growing bright day to find people already moving to open their shops. She moved in a slow dazed sort of way. She couldn’t believe she was leaving all this behind. She felt as if she knew every single flower, every fish in the ponds at the bottom of the Grove, every person inside and out of the Grove. Last night she had been excited to go, but now it hit her, like a wave, what she was leaving behind. Suddenly her speed quickened, she could always come back if she didn’t like it out there. Even though she knew it to be a lie in the back of her mind she was again happy to be going and dashed through the Grove to get to the gate.
Once she got there she again slowed, not sure of what to expect when she went through. She turned to the Asuran and was about to ask but seeing he was in a bad mood she turned to the Asuran’s Sylvari helper knowing she would be friendly and said, “What is it like when you go through?” The friendly Sylvari had been looking at something else and only now noticed Caevana. She smiled and replied, “Finely going through?” She had seen Caevana there with Kasaeva many times before and had even asked once if they were going through but they had replied that they weren’t allowed. Caevana nodded as an answer and the Sylvari continued on to say that it was different for everyone. Caevana again nodded and stood there a little longer and then started towards it but stopped before she went through and turn to ask her if she had seen Kasaeva go through but before she could reply the Asura said in an exasperated voice, “Yes, now are you going or not!?” All Caevana said was thank you to the Asura and continued in but right before the Sylvari grabbed her arm and said, “Don’t mind him; he is just a bit cranky today.” She stepped through and tried to gasp from the unexpected cold but couldn’t breathe. She closed her eyes tightly and waited for it to be over. When she came out on the other side she felt the heat again and opened her eyes. Nearly losing her balance she tried to grab something. Finding nothing she started to fall but before she hit the ground a firm hand caught her. After her head stopped spinning she looked up at who had caught her and saw a kind Sylvari who she guessed was a guard of the gate on this side like the Asura and Sylvari were on the other side. “Thank you. I guess I made a fool of myself walking through like that. I must have done something wrong.” She said quickly. He shook his head and replied, “I have seen worse first trips through that gate.” He escorted her down to the fountain at the base of the ramp and told her she should rest for a minute before going somewhere and he returned to his place next to the gate.
She looked around and saw that it was a little past noon here and there were so many people and so much noise coming from everywhere. It was so unlike the quiet Grove where everyone and everything seemed to whisper. After a few minutes she stood and went to find someone who could tell her where her friend had gone. She crossed the bridge that lead to the grand plaza and found someone who looked like he had stood there all day and asked him if he had seen a Sylvari with scarlet flower petals for hair. He pointed her to the docks; she thanked him and bounded off. Following his directions she caught up with a group of two Charr and two Sylvari, one she knew to be Kasaeva. She quickly guessed that Kas had made friends; she seemed to be really good at that…. Well she would just have to be friendly too. She bounded up to them and with a nice smile said, “Did you miss me Kas?”
